SponsorshipsFar West Skiing 2008/2009 Sponsorship Backgrounder Far West Skiing is a division of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association responsible for the organization and administration of youth Alpine Ski Racing in California and Nevada with the objective of placing elite Alpine competitors onto the U.S. Ski Team as well as NCAA and USCSA college ski racing teams. Our website is www.fwskiing.org Far West Skiing represents approximately 1000 competing athletes ranging in age from 8 to 22 years old, representing 700 families. Our younger athletes compete in the traditional technical events of Slalom and Giant Slalom, and at age 13 become eligible to compete in the Super Giant Slalom and Downhill speed events. All of our athletes are eligible to compete in intra-divisional races for their age group hosted by Far West Skiing member clubs. Athletes 15 and older compete within the Western Region of the USSA which covers Alaska and the geographic area west of the Rockies. Qualifying athletes aged 11 and older are selected for Regional National based upon their regular season race results continuing to National and International competitions upon meeting qualifying criteria. Far West Skiing has a long heritage of producing world class alpine skiers. Currently, seven alpine competitors from our Division are members of the U.S. Ski Alpine Team including Julia Mancuso, Marco Sullivan, Stacey Cook, Travis Ganong, Tim Jitloff, and Development Team Members Nick Daniels, and Kayla Fry. In the Skier-cross discipline Daron Rahlves will be skiing for the U.S. and Errol Kerr, who makes his home in Truckee, CA, will be skiing for Jamaica. At the collegiate level, we currently have 25 athletes at competitive programs.
Far West Skiing, through its specific grant programs, provides financial support to racers based on financial need. Additionally, through the annual Fundraising Party and other general fundraisers, Far West Skiing provides economic support to Alpine Skiing athletes that have qualified for Regional, National and International qualifying and championship competitions. All donors and supporting sponsors will be recognized on the Far West Skiing website at www.fwskiing.org where competitors, their parents and friends view the ski racing schedule and season ski racing standings. We accept monetary Donations and in-kind Sponsorship Donations.
