The 2012 WR Jr Champs will be held March 6-11, 2012 In Swchweitzer, Idaho.


Western Region Championships
The Western Region Championships are held for each age class, J1, J2 and J3, in each of the three regions in the U.S. J1/2 compete in 2 SL, 2GS, 2 SG. J3s race SL, GS and SG.

Western Region Junior Championships (FIS) 2 SL, 2GS, 2 SG, Schweitzer, Idaho– March  6-11, 2012

The Western Region J1/J2 Championships are calendared as a FIS junior regional championships’ event. The U.S. first and second place finishers of each race and the combined will be automatics for the Western Region Elite FIS Series in the following season.Quota and Selection:  MEN:     25                               WOMEN:   19NOTE: This method was adopted beginning with the 2008/09 season.  Please read carefully.  For an example please see the RSBM section later in this document.There is open qualifying amongst all J1s and J2s; no one is protected.  Selections will be based on the RSBM as follows:
  1. Up to a six column, double-sided board, with best USSA race result earned in designated Far West qualifier races by discipline on the left side and USSA points from the designated points list by discipline on the right side of the board
  2. Far West qualifier best USSA race result will be determined as follows:
    1. Far West Grand Prix SL, GS and Open FIS SG series in January and February
    2. An athlete will be able to use the best USSA race result from the contested qualifying races in each discipline.
    3. USSA race result is determined by adding race points and penalty points.
    4. If there is a tie in any given discipline, the tiebreaking proceeds as follows:
                                          i.    The tied athletes are listed from lowest to highest by their second best USSA race result from the tied discipline.                                         ii.    If that does not break the tie, list the tied athletes in order from lowest to highest USSA points in the discipline  from the USSA points lists used for the selection
  1. The board will be set up from left to right:
    1. Left side - Best USSA race result earned from the Far West qualifier races in each discipline in order of:
       SL, GS, SG (WR FIS Open/FW).  A column will not appear if the race series is cancelled.
    2. Right side - Points from the USSA points list in order of:, SL, GS and SG.  If a race series is cancelled for a particular discipline, the USSA points column for that discipline will still appear on the board.
  2. USSA points from the # 8 list, valid February 9, 2012  will be used
  3. Far West Division will select 80% of the men and women Quotas and hold 20% of the Quotas (men and women) slots in reserve for discretionary selection.  If no discretionary spots are used, the next alternates will be placed in these spots. To be selected by the J1 and J2 Development Committee of 5, representing different teams.
  4. An athlete needs to have a valid “F” number at the time of the event to be included in the best USSA race results columns. 
  5. Boards will be set up only including eligible athletes, removing foreign, out of division, mid and J3 athletes
  6. To appear on the USSA points side in each discipline of the selection board, an athlete must compete in at least one race of each discipline 
  7. Alternate list of ten (10) men and ten (10) women.
  8. All athletes, including alternates, must respond by the prescribed deadline listed at www.fwskiing.us
